TOM KNUDSON LAID TO REST

Funeral of Well Known Citizen Was Held Last Friday

The mortal remains of our late fellow citizen, Thomas Knudson, were laid to rest in Fairview cemetery last Friday afternoon, the funeral service being held at the Grace church, of which he had been a member the past ten years.

Rev. Orth, the pastor, was assisted in the service by Rev. Henry Kitson of Zenorsville. The church was filled by the large concourse of people who had come to pay their last respects to a much loved friend, and the floral tributes were very beautiful.

Following were pall bearers: J. C. Jessen, Dr. A. L. Born, Henry Severeid, Fred Corneliussen, Peter Fasting and Edwin Jacobsen.

Rev. Kitson read the following obituary of the deceased:

Tom Knudson, son of Omen and Mary Knudson was born in Norway, Iowa, June 23rd, 1876, and passed away in death Dec. 14, 1926, aged 50 years, 5 months and 21 days.

While the deceased was still in the tender years of childhood, the family moved to Story City, where he spent his boyhood and young manhood and where he received his education. On May the 27th, 1896, he was happily united in marriage with Miss Louise Schultz also of this community. This union was blessed by the coming of eight children into the family circle upon whom, with his beloved companion, he bestowed the tenderest care and deepest affection.

Mr. Knudson resided in Story City the past thirty years, having occupied during these years positions in the Pioneer Store, as proprietor of a restaurant, and with the barber trade, always maintaining a good standard in his business relations with his fellow men.

Ten years ago the departed was received into the fellowship of Grace church, and remained a valued member until his death. He was also a member of the Masonic, Knights of Pythias and Woodman orders. Considerable ill health and two operations weakened his physical strength so that for a number of years he did not enjoy good health, and seven and a half months ago he was compelled to remain at his home because of illness, and confined to his bed most of the time.

He bore his affliction in Christian patience and resignation to the will of God, never complaining but confessing constant trust in our Heavenly Father in whatever may be the final results of his illness. He often read the Word during his illness and prayed to Him who alone knows the needs of our spiritual life.

The departed one was a devoted and affectionate husband and father, and in return was greatly loved by his family who bestowed upon him every care and devotion during his long period of sickness.

There remain to mourn his departure his life companion, five children, three having preceded him in their infancy. The children still living are Mrs. Duella Albert of Seattle, Wash., Mrs. Irene Courtney of Ames, Leslie R., Alice Marie and Dorothy Naomi. Also two brothers: Newt Knudson of Marshalltown and Ole Knudson of Seattle, Wash.; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Davis of Grand Junction, Colo., and Mrs. Annie Dittmore of Crescent, Oklahoma, besides a large circle of friends. May the abiding grace of God bring comfort to the sorrowing friends.
