Sven Johannes Overland

Sven Johannes Overland was born July 28, 1850, at Nerstrand, Norway, his parents being Johannes and Sophia Overland. He died at his home in Story City, Iowa, Nov. 26 1926, at the age of 76 years, 3 months and 28 days.

He immigrated to America in 1872 settling at Norway, LaSalle county; he lived there 3 years, then lived 4 years in Ford county, then 4 years more in LaSalle county, Illinois. He moved to Morris, Ill., in 1883 and from there to Hamilton county, Iowa, in 1900. In 1914 he moved to Story City, where he and his wife have made their home ever since.

He was married Oct. 9, 1878, to Anna Christena Sigmond. To this union four children were born, two of whom (Alma and Elmer) died quite young. Two sons survive, namely Jasper and Edwin, both of Jewell, Iowa. Two sisters and two brothers have preceded him to the better land. Two sisters and one brother survive him, namely Daniel and Johannah of Norway and Martha Endreland of Story City. The surviving grandchildren are Jasper, Anna, Lawrence and Jessie, one grandchild (Sven John) having died about three years ago.

He was taken ill a couple years before leaving the farm and during the past fourteen year he was in constant poor health, necessitating the ministrations of his loving wife and kindred which were so generously given him.

Funeral services were held at the home and in the Immanuel church Tuesday afternoon, at which Revs. Heimarck and Paulsrud officiated. The pallbearers were Tom Holm, Edwin Olson, Sven Nessa, J. H. Jacobson, A. S. Anderson and E. P. Anderson. A large concourse of people assembled to pay their last respects to an honored neighbor and good friend. The remains were laid to rest in the Fairview cemetery.
