OBITUARY
Mrs. Ole Swenson
Laure Omundson was born five miles north of Story City on May 14th, 1878. Her parents were Lars and Josephine Omundson. She lost her mother when but twelve years old and she and her sister, Magda, were left to care for five younger children. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church by Rev. Tanner.
She was married to Ole Swenson on Sept. 5, 1896. They lived on a farm north of Story City for seven years but moved to town 23 years ago. To this union 11 children were born, three dying in infancy. Mrs. Swenson had a loving and kind disposition and was everybody's friend.
She had bee in failing health all spring, but took suddenly sick eight weeks ago. She became better and was able to attend the first Omundson reunion on Sunday, June 27. She grew gradually worse and on July 9 was taken to the Iowa Lutheran Hospital at Des Moines. Everything that earthly hands could do was done for her, but to no avail, and she died on Friday morning at 2:35, July 30, 1926. Her husband and children were at her bedside when the end came.
She leaves to mourn her sudden death her husband and eight children: Mrs. Agnes Ose, Myron, Esther, Olive, Lester, Laurentia, Orella and William. She also leaves her father, Lars Omundson, brothers, Lewis of Roland, Joseph of Wallingford and Nels of Story City; her sisters, Magda and Anna of Story City, Lena of Graettinger, and Jerima of Roland, besides a large circle of relatives and friends. Mrs. Swenson's was the first death in the Omundson family, since their mother died 36 years ago.
Funeral services were held at the Immanuel church in charge of Rev. Heimarck, her pastor. Interment at Story City cemetery. Pallbearers were, Henry Hovland, B. B. Brattebo, Tom Henderson, Lars Omvig, Chas. Alsager and Martin Hanson.
Those attending the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Sutton, Luella Omundson, Edna Sandvig, Josie and Sylvina Swanson and Selma Jacobson of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Counsel of Williams; Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Burke and Clemence of Dayton; Mr. and Mrs. John O. L. Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Nelson, Mrs. S. L. Jacobson, Henning Heningson of Jewell and Mrs. Ed Anderson and Thelma of Graettinger, Ia.
