Services Here For Former Resident
Funeral services were held at the Riis Funeral Home Sunday for Julia Gord. Rev. Leo O. Bjorlie officiated. Pallbearers were nephews: Orrie Anderson and Harry Gord of Ames and Jess Thopson, Oral Thompson, Clarence Thompson and Clyde Groat all of Fort Dodge. Burial was in the Bethlehem Cemetery.
Julia Gord was born Mar. 10, 1874, at Irlvile, Ill., and moved with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nels Gord, to Slater when very young. She lived here until her marriage to Osmund J. Johnson. To this union was born a son who died in early infancy.
Mrs. Gord has lived in Des Moines for many years. She suffered a heart attack Jan. 5 and passed away Jan. 7 at 11:40 p. m.
Two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Anderson and Mrs. Delia Thompson, and the following brothers preceded her in death: Ole Gord of Badger, Ia., Jess Gord of Ogden, Ia., Henry Gord of Slater and Pete and Tom Gord, both of California. Several nieces and nephews survive.
The deceased was the last survivor of eight children.
