OBITUARY OF UNION PIONEER

Brief Life History of Late Erasmus Lewis, Union Township's Aged Resident.

Erasmus Lewis was born April 15, 1835, in Norway, and died at the home of his son, Arthur Lewis one and one-half miles northwest of Huxley, Saturday, March 22d, at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 8 days.

He came to America in 1856. After about eight years he visited his old home, returning again to this country in 1864, locating in Jefferson, Wis. In the same year he was married to Anna Margreta Bryne, of Jefferson. They moved to Cambridge the same years, settling on a farm three and one-half miles northwest of there.

To this union were born eleven children. Four children died in infancy. His wife passed away October 17, 1919. Seven children survive, as follows: Charlie, of Howard, S. D.; John, of Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. B. J. Strom, of Dawson, Minn.; Mrs. O. B. Orre, of Minneapolis; Richard, of Pine River, Minn.; Daniel of Chicago, Ill., and Arthur, of Huxley, Iowa. Eighteen grandchildren and one brother Jonas Lewis of Cambridge, also survive him.

Deceased was one of Union township's oldest settlers, where it will be noticed, he lived the major part of his life. He was kind at heart, was friendly to all and had a host of dear friends who will love to think of him as an earnest Christian who followed in the steps of the lowly Nazarene.
