OLDEST CITIZEN IS CALLED BY DEATH
Mrs. Anna Lande of Southeast of Huxley Reached An Age of Ninety-six Years.
From the Palestine church last Wednesday afternoon occurred the funeral of Mrs. Anna Lande, said to have been the oldest woman in northern Polk or in southern Story for that matter, she having attainted an age of ninety-sis years, six months and twenty days. She had passed away the previous Sunday at her home southeast of Huxley. The funeral services were in charge of her pastor, Rev. Bueland. The remains were laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.
Deceased was a native of Norway, but had spent the major part of her life in this country, she having arrived here in 1857. Her marriage to Gjert Lande took place two years later. The marriage took place near Morris, Illinois, where they resided till 1866. To them were born four children, two sons and two daughters. Of these, the daughters are dead, the last one, Miss Anna, having passed away on June the 29th as the result of an accident, she having received burns from which she died. Her two sons, Albert and Henry, survive her.
In spite of her advanced age deceased had been in fairly good health up to the time when the terrible accident befell her daughter. The shock proved too mush for her and from then on she gradually failed till death claimed her on the 22nd.
