Mrs. Weir Ritland Funeral Services Held At Huxley Tuesday
Huxley, Feb. 28 -- Funeral service for Mrs. Weir Ritland were held Tuesday afternoon Feb. 25 at 1:30 p. m. with the brief devotion service at the home and at 2 p. m. at the Fjeldberg Lutheran church with Rev. O. C. Hellekson in charge.
Weir Birkestrand Jr. sang two special numbers "Behold A Host," and "Now The Day Is Over." Miss Ellen Legvold, a relative of the family played for the service. Gifts of money were given in memory of Mrs. Ritland by relatives and friends. The pallbearers were Ben and John Anfinson, Palmer Anderson, Clarence Hill, Burton Fjelland and Olem Tesdahl.
Born in Norway
Hannah Severaid, daughter of Johannes and Ann Saveraid, was born in Stavanger, Norway, June 1, 1870. She came to this country with her parents at the age of 11 years and settled in Story City. She was confirmed in the St. Petri Lutheran church in Story City.
Mrs. Ritland suffered a stroke 16 months ago and ahs been bedfast ever since and suffered her second stroke Wednesday, Feb. 19, and passed away in her home at Huxley Saturday night at the age of 76 years, eight months and 22 days.
Married in 1894
She was united in marriage to Weir Ritland of Huxley March 22, 1894. To this union eight children were born. Mrs. Ritland has lived in this community since her marriage, one mile west of Huxley until moving to town in 1928.
She was a loving and devoted wife and mother and carried a deep burden for her family, both for their physical and especially their spiritual welfare.
Survivors
She is survived by six children: Oscar of Story City, Arnold of Chicago, Ill., Jennings at home, Mrs. Irving Christenson of Elkader, Mrs. Clifford Myers of Ames and Mrs. Oscar Sesker of Cambridge, 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Her husband preceded her in death in March, 1943, and also one daughter, Hazel and son, Willard. Mrs. Ritland was the last one of 10 children to survive.
Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. Haskenbury of Lyman, Colorado, Mrs. Lars Ritland of Austin, Minn., Mrs. Forest Christenson, Mrs. R. Vanderstoes, and Mrs. C. Rhine of Eagle Grove, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Bejl of Mingo, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Palmer Anderson and Mr. and Mrs, Albert Wright of Boone and Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Olson of Jewell. Others from out of town were from Ames, Story city, McCallburg, Ankeny, Alleman and Cambridge.
