Services Held for Martin Nelson, 86
Martin Nelson, 86, of rural Cambridge, died Monday morning in his home following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Nelson a farmer, was a lifelong resident of the Cambridge area.
He is survived by his wife, Molly, a son, Dr. Arnold L. Nelson of Huxley and a foster daughter, Mrs. Mildred Holland of Slater.
Funeral services were held Wednesday yesterday at 2 p. m. at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church in Huxley with Rev. Marvin E. Nygaard and Rev. M. Harold Rye officiating.
Mrs. Jacob Lee was the organist and Mrs. Edward Larson, the soloist.
Pallbearers were Jesse Nelson, Orville Kalsem, Howard Johnson, Gaylord Johnson, Eugene Eness and Jack Holland. Burial was in Fjeldberg Cemetery at Huxley.
Riis Funeral Home in Slater had charge of arrangements.
Obituary
Martin Joseph Nelson was born Aug. 12, 1881 in Polk County, Ia., the youngest son of Andrew and Martha Nelson. He passed away at his home on Mar. 18, 1969 at the age of 86 years, 7 months and 6 days. Services were held at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church on Wednesday, Mar. 20 and interment at the Fjeldberg Cemetery.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Fjeldberg Church. On Sept. 9, 1902 he was united in marriage with Mollie B. Johnson. To this union one son was born, Arnold L. They also have a foster daughter, Mildred Birkestrand.
He was a life-long member of Fjeldberg Lutheran, an officer in the church and a member of the Building Committee when the present church was built.
He was engaged in farming and spent his entire life on the farm where he was born. He was well known as a breeder of fine purebred Percheron horses and served many years as a director of the Percheron Horse Association.
He is survived by his wife, Mollie, his son, Dr. Arnold Nelson, foster daughter Mrs. Mildred Holland and four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and three brothers.
