Last Rites Held for Steve Perzell, 80
Last rites for Steve Perzell were held Friday afternoon at 2:00 in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Pastor Leo O. Bjorlie was in charge of the services. Scripture readings were from Ps. 23, Ps. 24 and Romans 5:1-11. His message was based on the text from II Thess, 2:15-17.
Nilus Ihle, soloist, sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "The Lord's Prayer." He was accompanied by Mrs. Oliver Newman, organist.
Pallbearers were Charles Ramsey, Virgil Wood, Nick Juscik, Dean Heggen, Sargio Canarini and Monte Canarini.
Interment was in the Slater Municipal Cemetery.
Obituary
Steve Perzell, son of the later Steve and Anna Perzell, was born Sept. 24, 1881 in Zamutov, Czechoslavakia, and grew to manhood there.
He was united in marriage to Anna Bayus in 1907, and came to the United States the following year. They made their home at Whiteburg, Ia., where Mr. Perzell was employed in the coal mine.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and was super intendent and organist of the Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church there for several years.
The family moved to Slater in 1924 where they have resided since that time.
In addition to his wife, Anna, he is survived by five children, John of Maxwell, Mrs. Helen Wood of Polk City, Mrs. Ann Ramsey and Mrs. Sylvia Heggen of Des Moines and Mrs. Emma Juscik of Crown Point, Ind.; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren and two sisters.
Preceding him in death were a son, Joseph, his parents, five brothers and three sisters.
He was a faithful and devoted husband, and a kind and loving father. He will be sadly missed by his family, and his memory will be cherished by those who loved him.
He passed away this life July 17, 1962, at the Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, where he had been a patient, for four weeks, at the age of 80 years, 9 months and 23 days.
