Last Rites Held for Oscar E. Fritz, 83
Last rites for Oscar E. Fritz, 83, were held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 at the Bethlehem Church. Pastor Leo O. Bjorlie was in charge, choosing as his text Rev. 20:11-12, speaking on "The Book of Life."
A family service was held at 1:30 p. m. in the Sunday School Chapel.
Mrs. Lester Becker sang three songs, "Jesus Lover of My Soul," "I Know of a Sleep" and "I Know A Friend," singing the last number in the Norwegian language. She was accompanied by the organist, Mrs. Oliver Newman.
Pallbearers were Carroll Sydnes, Leslie Lande, Frank Seafield, Thurman Johnson, Harvey Tesdall and Robert Thompson.
Honorary pallbearers were Martin Romsa, Oliver Johnson, Nels T. Sydnes, Andrew Freeland, Geo. J. Severson and Amos Lande.
Interment was in the Bethlehem Cemetery.
Obituary
Oscar E. Fritz, son of Ole A. Fritz and Margaret Sheldahl Fritz was born on a farm southwest of Cambridge, Ia. on June 30, 1877 and passed away on Feb. 6, 1961 at the Mary Greeley Hospital, Ames, Ia., at the age of 83 years, 7 months and 6 days.
Oscar was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church an has been an active member of that church, serving in various capacities as trustee, deacon and leader in congregational singing for many years in the Bethlehem Church.
On Oct. 2, 1907 Oscar was united in marriage to Rachel Nerness, and has since resided on the old Nerness farm east of Slater. To this union was born a daughter, Margaret, who was later married to Arnold Sydnes. His wife, Rachel, passed away Dec. 25, 1951 and daughter, Margaret on April 1, 1960.
The deceased was loved and admired by all who knew him and his memory will long be cherished by the community in which he lived.
