Obituary
Barbara Fjelland Fridell was born in Des Moines on Nov. 5, 1923, the daughter of Sanford and Marie Zihlman Fjelland. After the death of her father in 1928, Barbara moved to Wellman, Ia., where she made her home with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. F. R. Lewis.
Baptized into the Christian faith as an infant, Barbara was confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Wellman. After graduating from Wellman High School she attended the University of Iowa where she graduated from the school of nursing in 1946.
In June of 1944 she was united in marriage to Dr. Glen Fridell of Gowrie, Ia. She accompanied her husband to Japan where they served in the United States Army Medical Corps. On their return to this country they served on the staff of the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City until 1955 when they moved to Slater.
The Slater community loved and respected Dr. and Mrs. Fridell. They were associated with Dr. Wayne Severson in a medical practice partnership. It came as a severe shock to everyone when Dr. Fridell was fatally injured in an automobile accident in 1958. Barbara continued to work as office nurse until serious illness prevented her from carrying on the work she loved so well. After several visits to the hospital, Barbara was cred for at her home by her aunt, Mrs. Margaret Lewis of Wellman, until the time of her death on Wednesday morning, Oct. 18, 1961. She was almost 38 years of age.
She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Marie Fjelland and by many relatives and a large community of friends.
Barbara was an active member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She enjoyed her Sunday school class of boys and girls, and being a member of the choir.
God bless her memory for each one of us.
