AGED CITIZEN IS CALLED BY DEATH

Knute Cleveland answered the last summons Thursday at an age of nearly eighty years. Funeral held last Saturday

Death at six o'clock last Thursday evening claimed Knute Cleveland, one of Slater's aged citizens. He had been in feeble health for some time but seriously ill only a week or so previous to his death. His advanced age, coupled with previous illnesses, made his case anything but a hopeful one from the first and death on above date had been anticipated for several days. Funeral was held from the Lincoln church Saturday afternoon, burial being made in the local cemetery. His pastor, Rev. Wee, had charge of the services in which he was assisted by Rev. Holman. Many were in attendance at the obsequies.

Knute Cleveland was a native of Norway where he was born on December 10, 1831. The first thirty-nine years of his life were spent in his native land where he married on September 1, 1857. With many others, he and his family left the country of their birth in the year of 1870 and came to America where he resided till the time of his death. He came direct to Iowa and had made this community his home the greater part of the time. He was the father of six children. Of these three have preceded the father into the other world while three are left to mourn his loss. They are Mrs. Jacob Ersland of this place, William Cleveland of Slayton, Minn. and George Cleveland of Centerville, South Dakota. He is also survived by his wife as well as a brother who resides at Jewell and a sister who lives at Denver, Colorado.

Deceased, having made Slater his home for many years, was well known, especially among the church people, far beyond the borders of of the community and he will be especially remembered for his interest in and fidelity to church work. He was not only a regular attendant at all church gatherings but took a very active part in all church deliberations and co-workers see in his death the loss of a staunch worker, and he will be missed. Splendid tributes to his memory were offered by both of the speakers at the last sad rites.
