McBride Services Held At Slater

Funeral services for W. B. McBride were held Thursday afternoon Sept. 29 at the Riis Funeral Home at 1:30 P. M. and at 2 o'clock from the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Rev. Leo Bjorlie was in charge of services. Robert Weeks, soloist sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Precious Lord Take My Hand." He was accompanied by Mrs. Robert Newman, organist. The many beautiful floral tributes were cared for by Mrs. Lester Nelson Sr. and Mrs. Joe Floden. There were also many gifts to worthy causes in memory of Mr. McBride. Casket bearers were E. C. Rood, William Van Gundy, R. W. Pirkey, George A. Stigler, Ed G. Lee and Albert Alleman. Burial was in the Slater Cemetery.

Obituary

Walter B. McBride was born August 16, 1889 at Hoytville, Ohio. His parents were Ida and Frank McBride. He passed away on Sept. 27, 1955 at the age of 66 years, 1 month and 11 days. On Nov. 6, 1920, Mr. McBride was united in marriage to Myrtle Dueland at the Palestine parsonage east of Slater. They established their home in Slater at this time. To this union three children were born. They are Mrs. Ralph (Beverly) Ray of Slater, Pal of Rockford, Illinois and Mrs. Arthur (Lucille) Nelson of Des Moines. He is also survived by two brothers and one sister, Orrin McBride of Marion and Mrs. Harry Leatherman and Howard NcBride of Delta, Ohio, Additional survivors include six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and an infant brother.

Mr. McBride was baptized in the Christian faith in Ohio. At the time of his death he was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

He was employed here 32 years as signal maintainer by the Milwaukee railroad. Many relatives from a distance were in attendance at the services.
