Final Rites for Mrs. Cecie Croft
Last rites for Mrs. Cecie M. Croft were held Thursday afternoon of that week. Services were held in Adel at 1 p. m. in the Fisher funeral home followed by a service in the Slater Methodist church at 2:30 p. m. Rev. Clarence Thiele, pastor of the Adel Methodist church, was in charge of both services. He was assisted by Rev. Fred Martin, pastor of the Slater church.
The service here opened with a hymn, "Sunrise Tomorrow," sung by Mrs. Lawrence Fausch, accompanied by Mrs. Harold Croft. Rev. Martin read the 14th chapter of St. John and 23rd Psalm. Rev. Thiele read the obituary and gave a comforting message to the relatives and friends. The service closed with a duet, "Beyond the Sunset," by Rev. and Mrs. Fred Martin, accompanied by Mrs. Phil Rood.
There were many beautiful floral tributes and gifts for worthy causes in memory of the deceased.
Casket bearers were Amos Shinn, Cecil Eyres, Herchel Thornton, Leonard Henderson, C. A. Wolfe and Walter Pike, all of Adel. Burial was in the Slater cemetery.
Mrs. Croft was born Nov. 10, 1869 in Illinois, Her parents were Charles and Mary Bassett. The family came to Iowa and settled in Boone county, later moving to Slater when Cecie was about 18 years of age. In November, 1893, she was united in marriage to Will Croft of Slater, who passed away in April, 1931.
In the fall of 1931, Mrs. Croft moved to Toledo, Ia., where she made her home with her son, LeRoy and family; later they moved to Adel.
Besides her son, LeRoy, she is survived by a granddaughter, Charlotte Croft; two sisters, Mrs. Marie Frundle and Mrs. Addie Graves, both of Altadena, Calif.; a brother, Guy Bassett of Colorado Springs, Colo., and among other nieces and nephews, a niece Mrs. Gladys Schnohorst, who made her home with the deceased from the time she was a child. A grandson, Bruce, preceded her in death having been killed in Belgium during World War II.
