THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, October 04, 2005.

Robert Joseph Dreier was born Nov. 7, 1919, to William and Ruth (Ritner) Dreier in Des Moines. He married Margaret Meier Sept. 4, 1941. Bob served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, stationed in the Pacific arena. They made their home on the Meier farm south of Hubbard, where they lived and farmed until retirement.

As an active member of Salem United Methodist Church, he served various positions. He was also a member of the Lions Club, elevator board and creamery board. He participated in Heifer Project International in Perryville, Ark., helped to build a church in Heart Butte, Mont., and through Volunteers in Mission repaired homes in Louisiana following Hurricane Andrew.

He enjoyed working with stained glass, reading, playing cards, traveling, woodworking and his grandsons. With all of these many interests, he still found his greatest pleasure and satisfaction in farming.

He died of cancer on Saturday, Oct. 1, at Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Walter; one sister, Elizabeth Henning; and one grandson, Matthew Lundgren.

Those thankful for sharing his life include his wife, Margaret of Iowa Falls; one son, Gordon (Mary) Dreier of Hubbard; one daughter, Sharon (Thomas) Lundgren of Milton, Wis.; three grandsons, Benjamin Dreier of Anchorage, Alaska, Seth Dreier of Ames and Alex Dreier of Hubbard; one brother William (Mary Ellen) of Cedar Falls; one sister, Lucile Duitscher of Ames; along with many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, at Boeke Funeral Home in Hubbard. The memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, at Salem United Methodist Church in Hubbard.

Memorials may be directed to Salem United Methodist Church or Heifer Project International.
