THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, October 04, 2005.
Bernice I. Aldrich, 81, formerly of Alleman, died Friday, Oct. 1, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Services will be at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday Oct. 5, at Salem United Church of Christ in Alleman with the Rev. Barb Bullock officiating. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery in Alleman.
Bernice was born April 16, 1924, in Leighton, to Peter J. and Gertrude (Steenhoek) Van De Wall. She resided in Alleman and Huxley most of her life. She was employed at North Polk Schools until she retired in 1980. She was a 1943 graduate of Alleman High School. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ. She married James Cecil Aldrich Oct.19, 1949, in Alleman.
She is survived by two granddaughters, Peggy Ann (Jason) Back of Polk City and Angela (Rob) Avila of Carlisle; three great grandchildren; one brother, Marion (Bev) Van De Wall of Pleasant Hill; and two sisters, Dorothy (Dale) Lund of Slater and Beulah (C.P.) Groenendyk of Tracy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two sons, Duane Ray Aldrich and Craig Alan Aldrich.
Family will greet friends at the church from noon until the time of services.
Memorials may be sent to Salem United Church of Christ or Madrid Home.
Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater is in charge of arrangements.
