Obituary of Mrs. Lill'berg
Marie Lilleberg, daughter of Hans and Karine Stenberg, was born the 28th of September, 1843, in Aurskage Prestyeld, Norway, daughter, Mrs. K. J. Ersland of Armstrong, Iowa. January 18, 1929, at the age if 85 years, 3 months and 20 days. When she was 23, she, with her brothers and sisters, came to America with their father and stepmother in the year 1866.
They resided in Chicago until fall, when she was united in marriage to Christian O. Lilleberg, at Eau Claire, Wisconsin. They moved to Jackson county, Minn., where they resided until 1876, when they moved to Story county, Iowa. Here he husband died in the year 1888. To this union nine children were born. Those living are: George C., Raymond, Minn.; Mrs. R. C. Severeid, New London, Minn.; Mrs. H. O. Peterson, Ames; Mrs. Tom Nelson, Fergus Falls, Minn, and Mrs. K. J. Ersland of Armstrong. Those who have passed before her are Mrs. C. M. Johnson (Mathilda), Syrvrin, Oscar and Hadley. She is also mourned by one brother, John Stenberg, of Slater, one half sister, Mrs. S. Reisem of Lakota, five half brothers, Chris Stenberg, Elsworth; Adolph, Grove City, Minn.; Henry, Buffalo Center; Joseph, Elmore, Minn., and twenty grandchildren and six great grandchildren, also a host of other relatives and friends. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church and remained steadfast in that faith until the last.
Deceased was a self-sacrificing wife and mother. Her unfailing faith and obedience to God found expression in her love for His word. Even after she lost her eyesight, her daily devotion consisted in the singing of beautiful songs she so deeply loved.
Although her life was one of many hardships and sorrows, she bore them all with unfailing Christian spirit which sill be forever remembered by her children.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, January 20th, by Rev. E. T. Lundy at the Lutheran church. All her children except the daughter from Ames were present at the funeral.
