Rites Tuesday for Mrs. Celia Skola
Services for Mrs. Celia Skola of Ames, a former Slater resident, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames. Pastor O. M. Severseike was in charge.
Mrs. Lester Becker of Slater was the soloist. The organist was Mrs. Vincent Roach.
The remains lay in state at the Riis Funeral Home Monday night and Tuesday, prior to the service.
Pallbearers were Paul Townsend, Harold Beal, Jr., Richard Hoffman, Richard Thompson, Gerald Thompson and David Thompson.
Interment was in the Bethlehem Cemetery at Slater.
Obituary
Celia E. Skola, daughter of T. O. and Julia Heggem, was born near Slater on May 11, 1885 and passed away Mar. 26, 1960, at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church of Ames. She had been a resident of Ames for 20 years.
She was married to Elmer Thorson who preceded her in death in 1913. In 1921 she married Tom Skola wo passed away in 1938. Her parents, a son and daughter also preceded her in death.
Survivors include: One son, Donald Skola, Ames, Ia.; Maxine Thompson, Cylinder, Ia., Evelyn Townsend, Ames, Ia., Alberta Beal, New Providence, Ia., Mildred Frantzen, Webster City, Ia.; a brother, Sanford Heggem, Atlantic, Ia.; sisters, Mrs. Sadie Mathews, Ames, Ia., Mrs. Tillie Johnson, Oakland, Calif., Mrs. Ruth Harmer, Slater, Ia, Mrs. Marjorie Peterson, Ames, Ia., Mrs. Jeannette Henry, Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Loretta Perry, Denver, Colo., Mrs. Doris Nervig, Ames, Ia. and Mrs. Kathryn Ward, Oakland, Calif.; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
