THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Sunday, September 25, 2005.

Kenneth W. Okland, 79, of Kelley, died Friday, Sept. 23, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church in Huxley with the Rev. Tom Hilger officiating. Burial will be in Fjeldberg Lutheran Church Cemetery in Huxley.

Kenneth W. Okland was born March 27, 1926, in Huxley, the son of John and Edith (Johnson) Okland. He married Margaret Ackerman Dec. 26, 1951, in Des Moines. He served in the U.S. Army. He worked as a farmer before retiring in 1995. A lifetime resident of Kelley, he was a member of Fjeldberg Lutheran Church, a lifetime member of VFW and the American Legion. He is a past president of the Story County Cattleman's Association, the Huxley Cooperative Telephone Company and the Fjeldberg Lutheran Church board. He organized a roller skating group in the 1940s, was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and loved spending a lot of time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret, of Kelley; four children, Kenny (Jeanette) Okland of Kelley, Linda (Kevin) Larson of Story City, John (Glenda) Okland of Kelley and Tim Okland of Kelley; three siblings, Stanley Okland, Lois (Gordon) Hove and Dorothy (Ken) Burger; 14 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Marlowe and Leo.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 26, at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church in Huxley. Memorials may be directed to Fjeldberg Lutheran Church in Huxley.

Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater is in charge of arrangements.
