Services Held for Edward Brown, 66

Funeral services were held at the Highland Park Funeral Home in Des Moines at 1:30 p. m. Monday for Ed Brown.

Rev. H. Wm. Sorenson who was in charge spoke comforting words to the sorrowing relatives and friends.

Patricia Brown, a great-niece of the deceased sang "In the Garden," accompanied on the organ by Marilyn Newman of Slater.

Burial was made in the Glendale Cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Cole, Mr. and Mrs. Kermit Granseth, Mrs. Clara Brown, Truman Brown and daughter, Patty, were among those attending the funeral services.

Obituary.

Edward Clarence Brown, son of Martin and Enger Brown, was born near Slater, Feb. 19, 1888, and passed away Saturday, May 8 of a stroke at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines, reaching the age of 66 years, 2 months and 19 days.

He spent the earlier years of his life on th farm with his parents, receiving his earlier education at the Bloomfield School and later attended Jewell Lutheran College at Jewell, Ia.

He was baptized and confirmed at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Slater, where he was a member.

During World War I he spent one year in the navy, from which he received an honorable discharge, due to a heart condition. Later he joined the army, where he served until the end of the war. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Ames.

Since the war he lived at Ames, where he has been a resident for 30 years. He was engaged in construction and sales work.

Due to failing health he moved to Des Moines in the fall of 1950 to make his home with his sisters.

He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Eloise Neslund and Marie J. Brown, 21 nieces and nephews, 30 great-nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
