Services Held for John Graeber, 65
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Sheldahl Methodist church for John Graeber of Sheldahl. Mr. Graeber suffered a heart attack on Feb. 3 and was rushed to the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines. On the trip down he had another attack. He passed away on Feb. 10. Mr. Graeber was well known in Sheldahl and the surrounding community, having worked for the Sheldahl Grain Co. for 32 years. The past 15 years he served the firm as it's competent manager.
Rev. Fred Martin had charge of the services and read John 14 for his scripture reading. He used John 14:2, "I Go to Prepare a Place for You" as the text of his sermon.
Lester Moore of Sheldahl sang two solos, "Sunrise," accompanied by Mrs. Orrie Stauffer and "The Lord's Prayer' accompaied by Mrs. John Adams of Luther.
Pallbearers were Robert Graeber, Walter Graeber, Herbert Graeber, Barney Graeber, Jr., Wm. Harmon and Jesse Bryant.
Burial was in the Sheldahl cemetery.
Following the return from the cemetery the Sheldahl W. S. C. S. served lunch to the relatives and friends in the church basement.
Obituary.
John A. Graeber, son of Phillip and Elizabeth Graeber, was born June 23, 1885 at the farm home, three miles south of Sheldahl, and passed away on Feb. 10 at the age of 65 years, 7 months and 17 days.
When 19 years of age he went to Regent, N. D. to help on the Graeber ranch.
He was married Sept. 22, 1908 to Jennie Rutherford and to this union was born two girls and a boy. One of the girls and the boy died in infancy and only Vivian survives.
In 1916 he came back to Iowa on account of sickness. He recovered after three years and began work at the Farmer Grain Co., where he was employed as manager at the time of his death. He lived in Sheldahl all this time.
On Apr. 14, 1925 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Julia Woods and to this union one child was born, but died in infancy.
While in North Dakota he was superintendent of a Congregational Sunday school and after his marriage to his present wife he was united with the Church of Christ in Highland Park, Des Moines, and was immersed.
Besides his wife, Mrs. Julia Graeber, and his daughter Mrs. Vivian Winslow of Des Moines, he leaves Mrs. Grace DeMars, a step-daughter, and Laverne Woods, a step-son, both of Tulsa, Okla. Also surviving are his brothers, Wm. F. Graeber of Sheldahl, George of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Barney H. of Denver, Colo.; his only sister, Mrs. Katie Burkey of Cambridge, and four grandchildren.
