John Dunahoo, one of the very earliest settlers in the Iowa Center neighborhood and Story county died at the Dunahoo homestead just east of teh Center at 6:45 Saturday morning and was buried from the village church Sunday afternoon at 2, the services being conducted by Rev. Sparks, of the Methodist church of Maxwell. At the time of his death Mr. Dunahoo was 75 years, one month and seven days old. The deceased was born in Augusta county, Virginia Oct 5, 1829. When still very young he moved with his parents to Indiana and settled on a farm a few miles from Indianapolis. In 1851 he was united in marriage to Miss Rachel Ray, and two years later they came to Iowa and settled on a farm just east of the Iowa Center, where they continued to reside until the death of the wife, when the farm was sold to one of the sons, Mathews, with whom Mr. Dunahoo made his home until his death. The deceased leaves six children, 16 grand-children, two brothers and two sisters. The funeral was attended by an immense crowd of old neighbors and friends besides the family and the little church was wholly inadequate to hold those who were present. Mr. Dunahoo was a man who was held in high esteem by those who k new him and in his death the county loses one who has done much for the upbuilding of the social and moral interests of the county. -Nevada Journal
