Last Rites Held for Martin Romsa, 91
The funeral services for Martin Romsa were held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p. m. at the Riis Funeral Home. Rev. Adix was in charge of the services.
Mrs. Oliver Newman was the organist. She also accompanied the soloist, Nilus Ihle, who sang "Nearer My God to Thee" and "The Old Rugged Cross."
In charge of the flowers were Mrs. Sherman Stensland and Mrs. Paul Lee.
Pallbearers were Paul Lee, Tilmer Sydnes, Arnold Sydnes, Ingwal Estrem, Mike Mickelson and Sherman Stensland.
Interment was in the Bethlehem Cemetery at Slater.
Obituary
Martin Romsa, 91, son of Hemming and Martha Romsa, early Story County Pioneer settlers was born Dec. 7, 1872 northeast of Slater. He was baptized by Pastor Osmond Sheldahl and confirmed by Pastor H. O. Holm. He had very little schooling and at the age of 19 purchased his farm where he lived and engaged in farming until three years ago when he suffered a severe stroke and had been bedfast since.
In 1908 he was united in marriage to Elma Seastrom, and to this union two daughters were born. Survivors include his wife, two daughter, Mrs. Alden (Mae) Johnson of Madrid and Mrs. Ivan (Harriet) Herzog of Baxter; six grandchildren, Audrey, Carolyn and Frederick Johnson, and Bill, Mark and Tina Herzog of Baxter and many nieces and nephews.
He was the youngest of nine children and was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers.
He was blessed with good health and a jolly, cheerful disposition. He was a lover of music, and participated Slater and Huxley bands for over 50 years.
He passed quietly away in his sleep March 11 at the Iowa Lutheran Home in Madrid following a three-year illness, at the age of 91 years, 3 months and 4 days.
