Obituary of Mrs. N. R. Sydnes
Mrs. Mary Sydnes was born January 1st, 1870, on a farm southeast of Huxley, her parents being Mr. and Mrs. Thor Olson Hill. She grew to womanhood in that community. She attended school in the Fieldberg district south of there. With her parents she worshipped in the Fieldberg church where she later was confirmed.
On November 22nd, 1890, she was joined in marriage to Nels R. Sydnes of Huxley, where he was operating a hardware store and bought grain. Shortly after their marriage they moved onto a farm three miles southwest of Huxley which he had previously acquired. There they lived happily together, rearing a family of fine children. Years of thrift, and hard work, combined with good judgment in the management of affairs, made it possible for them to erect a beautiful home. They continued to reside there till in fall of 1913 when they moved to Slater where they have since lived, till death claimed her on May 30, 1932.
Mrs. Sydnes was the mother of eight children. Of these, one, George, died in 1912. The others survive her. They are: Richard of east of Slater; Nettie, Mrs. Roy Halverson, of north of town; Agnes, Mrs. Elmer Severson of Alsen, North Dakota; Pearl, Mrs. Thornwall, of west of town; and Lillie, Mae and Ernest who live at home. She also left a sister, Mrs. Ole Hatteberg of Silvertown, Oregon.
Mrs. Sydnes will be remembered as a kind, thoughtful neighbor and friend. She always took an active part in church work and was firm believer in the lowly Nazarene whom she had fervently worshipped for many years. In her death the church has lost an ernest worker and the community a sincere friend.
