THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, Aug 28, 1952, page 1, column 1.
“ROSS J. OLINGER LAID TO REST. – Services were held Saturday, August 23 at 2:30 p.m. at the Maxwell Presbyterian church, for Ross J. Olinger. Rev. Ira E. Carney of the Maxwell Christian Church, a close friend of Mr. and Mrs. Olinger, officiated. Ross J. Olinger, son of James M. and Rebecca J. Olinger, was born on the Olinger homestead in southeast Maxwell, October 16, 1881. He passed away August 20, 1952 at 8:30 p.m. at his home in Maxwell. On May 7, 1902 he was united in marriage to Fannie A. Scott in Maxwell. To this union were born two sons, Clair M. Olinger of Des Moines, and another son who died in infancy. At an early age he united with the Presbyterian Church of Maxwell. One of his great pleasures in Christian service was singing in the choir and assisting with music whenever needed. He has been in ill health for a number of years, but was privileged to celebrate his golden wedding anniversary with his wife on May 7, 1952. Ross will be remembered by a host of friends, not only in Maxwell, but in many of the surrounding towns of Story County, as a true friend. Mr. Olinger is survived by his wife, Fannie of Maxwell, a son Clair of Des Moines, a sister, Mrs. Edna Morr of Des Moines, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Jean Mohler and Marian Shipman sang “When I Come to the End of a Long, Long road” and “Lord I’m Coming Home” accompanied at the piano by Jean Dykstra. Laura Pearson and Leota Scott cared for the beautiful floral tributes which spoke so eloquently without words of the high esteem of friends and relatives. Casket bearers were Lyle Scott, Glen Scott, Forest Scott, Dale Scott, James Olinger and Ralph Cooper and honorary bearers were Vaughn Ray, Dale John, Owen Scott, Arnold Scott and J. B. Scott. Interment was in the Maxwell Cemetery.” “CARD OF THANKS. – We wish to express our most sincere gratitude to our neighbors and friends, who so kindly and unselfishly gave of their time and their heart to ease our burden in our hour of bereavement. The beautiful floral tributes, each kind deed and words shall not be forgotten. We pray that God’s richest blessings may rest on each and every one. Mrs. R. J. Olinger, Clair M. Olinger, Mrs. Edna Morr.”BURIAL: Iowa Historical Library, Des Moines, Iowa. STORY COUNTY, IOWA GRAVE MARKER INSCRIPTIONS Geneal. * F 627. S8 V. 1-6, pages 1-368, V. 7-11 pages 369-792, V.
