PEARSON, DAVID (1875-1952)

THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday April 10, 1952, page 1.
“DAVID PEARSON AT REST. – David Pearson, son of Joseph and Juliette Pearson was born September 10, near Colo, Iowa, and departed this life from his home in Maxwell, Iowa, April 1st, 1952, being 77 years, 6 months and 21 days of age. Mr. Pearson early moved with his parents to Polk County, where at the tender age of four, he lost his father, whereupon with his mother and only sister, Dellilah, they moved to the home of his grandparents, where he grew to young manhood. He began farming for himself near State Center, later buying a farm near Clyde, where for eight years he made a home for his mother and sister. He then came to the Maxwell vicinity, where for many years he has made a home for his nieces, Gladys Pearson and Mildred Scott, being like a father to them. Mr. Pearson accepted Christ in young manhood, and later became a member of the Maxwell Presbyterian Church. He was for some 26 years a member of the local lodge of I. O. O. F., and for 21 years its treasurer, deeply appreciating the fraternal fellowship. After retiring from the farm, David followed carpentering for nearly forty years. His mother preceded him in death in 1925, and his sister in 1939. His only near surviving relatives are the nieces, Gladys Pearson and Mildred Scott, who with many friends, mourn his passing, but remember him with gratitude. Funeral services were Thursday afternoon at two with Hugh C. Guy, of Nevada, in charge. Burial was in Peoria cemetery. Casket bearers were Jim Ward, Jay Harmon, Ole Hulderson, Dr. E. W. Sheldahl, Ed McQuiston and Ed Hanson. Music was by Mesdames J. B. Scott and R. Il Shackelford, who sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Jesus Lover of My Soul” with Mrs. Ned Pearson at the organ. Those from out-of-town in attendance at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Olen Irons of Tama; Mrs. Maggie Haynes, Mrs. Evah Gettle and Mrs. Vera Welton of Garwin; Mr. and Mrs. Willard Holtman and Mr. Donald Pearson of Des Moines; Mrs. Clair Pease, Mrs. Curtis Shisler and Mrs. Jay Beals of Colfax; Mrs. Claude Baldwin of Mingo, and Rev. and Mrs. Hugh Guy of Nevada.” “CARD OF THANKS. – To those who have been with us in our bereavement and by kind words and kindly acts have tried to lessen our sorrow, we extend our sincere thanks. Miss Gladys Pearson, Miss Mildred Scott.”
