MRS. THOR LANDE ANSWERS SUMMONS
She passed away Saturday morning. Funeral on Tuesday was attended by many.
Mrs. Siri Lande, wife of Thor Lande of Huxley, died last Saturday morning at two o'clock. In poor health for many years, she had been in her usual condition till about two weeks ago when she became seriously ill and failed rapidly till Saturday morning when she passed peacefully away. Funeral took place from the home and the Fieldberg church Tuesday afternoon where her pastor, Rev. Guttebo, spoke to the large audience that had gathered to attend the last sad rites.
Deceased was born at Sydnes, Norway, Dec. 20, 1834. She came from a family of eight children of whom two survive her, a brother, Christopher, in Norway and a sister, Bertha, who lives in Cresco, Iowa. She came to America in June 1866. On September 17th of the same year she was joined in marriage to Thor Lande. Shortly after their marriage they settled down in Polk county where a home was awaiting them. There they shared life's joys and sorrows together for forty-six years, rearing a family of five children. Of these only two survive her. They are Mrs. Henry Hemmingson and Mrs. Elias Hemmingson. Nine years ago they moved to Huxley where she lived when death called her.
Shortly after coming to America she affiliated herself with the Fieldberg congregation where she continued to worship till the time of her death. She was also a faithful member of the ladies aid society of the same church and was an ardent worker, always interested in things good and noble. She was sick for many years and much of the time bedfast. In spite of this she was cheerful and a great inspiration to her aged companion who is left to mourn her, little thinking that of the two she should be the first to answer the summons. The deep sympathy is his.
