Obituary of Mrs. Marie Urdahl.
Mrs. Marie Urdahl, whose maiden name was Rugtvet, was born in Etne, Stordalen, Norway, where she was baptized and confirmed in Lutheran church. She moved to America at the age of 34 years and lived with her sister, Mrs. Inger Severson, Cambridge, Iowa. She was united in marriage the same year to Mr. Jacob Urdahl and lived on a farm in Polk county about six years ago. Of her five children, four survive her, namely, Mrs. Martha Arndts, Kensett, Iowa, Mrs. Dave Fausch, Ottawa, Kan., Mrs. Anfin Apland, Ames, Iowa, and Mrs. Dave Alleman, Slater, Iowa. The last two were present at the funeral. Mrs. Urdahl had bee suffering from rheumatism for some time, but became seriously ill the last two weeks of her life. She passed away at the high age of 83 years, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Arndts, Kensett, Iowa, December 30, and was taken to Slater for interment, where funeral services were held January 2nd at the home of Mrs. Ole Johnson, who kindly opened her house for this funeral; the church could not be used on account of quarantine, and the weather was too severe to have it at the home of daughter. Mrs. Alleman, where it was first arranged for. The services were attended by a large crowd of sympathizing friends. Her grandson, Mr. Carl Arndts, and a friend, Mr. Orin Knudson, escorted the body to Slater. A niece, Mrs. E. L. Severeid, of Story City, was present at the funeral, which was conducted by the pastor of Bethlehem church, of which she was a faithful member until her death. "Remember them that the rule over you, that spake unto you the word of God; and considering the issue of their life, imitate their faith." Heb. 13, 7.
