“C. C. WHITNEY. – Charles C. Whitney, 82, longtime resident of Cambridge, and once employed as section foreman on the Milwaukee railroad, died at the Iowa Lutheran hospital in Des Moines on Thursday, May 11. He was the son of Sanford R. and Margaret E. Whitney, born at LeClaire, Ill., Feb. 22, 1862. He was united in marriage to Flora Wood in 1880. To this union were born two sons, Clyde Burton Whitney, who preceded his father in death; and Charles E. Whitney of Detroit, Mich.; and three daughters, Mrs. Hazel Graham, deceased, Mrs. Mary Hulsizer of Oswego, Kans., and Mrs. Euteda O’Mara of Minneapolis, Minn. Mr. Whitney moved to Cambridge in 1894, where he was employed by the Milwaukee railroad. Besides his wife, a son and two daughters, he is survived by 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday in charge of Rev. Paul K. Smith. Burial was in the Cambridge cemetery.”

“C. C. WHITNEY, PIONEER CAMBRIDGE MAN DEAD. – Cambridge, May 12 – Charles C. Whitney, 82, longtime resident of Cambridge and once employed as section foreman on the Milwaukee railroad, died at the Iowa Lutheran hospital in Des Moines, Thursday morning. Funeral rites will be conducted at the home Saturday at 2 p.m. and burial will be in the Cambridge cemetery. He is survived by his wife and one son Chas. Of Phoenix, Ariz., and daughters Euleda O’Mara, of Cambridge and Mrs. May Hilsizer of Oswego, Kans. Mr. Whitney had gained a wide acquaintance in this part of the country through his long residence in Cambridge.”

“FUNERAL SERVICES SATURDAY AFTERNOON FOR CHARLES C. WHITNEY. Cambridge, May 15 – Funeral rites for Charles C. Whitney, longtime Cambridge resident, who died May 11, at his home here at the age of 82 years, were held Saturday afternoon at 2:00, in charge of Rev. Paul K. Smith, followed by burial in the Cambridge cemetery. The following obituary was read by the minister during the funeral services: Charles Clay Whitney, son of Sanford R. and Margaret E. Whitney, was born at Le Claire, Ill., Feb. 22, 1862, and passed away May 11, 1944, at the age of 82 years, 2 months and 19 days. In 1880 he was united in marriage to Flora Wood. To this union were born 2 sons, Clyde Burton Whitney, who preceded his father in death, and Charles E. Whitney of Detroit; and three daughters, Mrs. Hazel Graham, deceased, Mrs. Mary Hulsizer of Oswego, Kans., and Mrs. Euteda O’Mara of Minneapolis. Mr. Whitney moved to Cambridge in 1894 where he was employed by the Milwaukee railroad and resided until his demise. He was a member of the Woodman and K. P. lodges. He is survived by his wife, one son, two daughters, 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. He was a devoted husband and a kind and loving father. His memory will be long cherished by his loved ones.”
