Death of Ames Man.

Special to the JOURNAL.
AMES, Dec. 28.--The funeral of John Roland, one of the old citizens of Ames, who passed away on Christmas day, occurred at the home on Boone street yesterday afternoon. Rev. Stiverson of the United Brethren church officiating. A large number of friends and relatives were in attendance. The decease was born in Sweden March 7, 1832. When but a boy he moved to Norway, where he was married in 1862. He landed in America on Independence day, 1868. He lived in Illinois for about four years when he came out and settled at Sheldahl. There he remained until about 1877 when he came to Ames.

He was employed by the Northwestern as yardman ad later as flagman for about a score of years. He was injured while serving in this capacity about twelve years ago and the amputation of one of his legs became necessary. Two years ago he was retired upon a pension. He leaves a wife and ten children, two of the twelve children were present at the funeral. Mr. Roland was a man of many good qualities and his death will be mourned by many warm friends as well as his family.
