THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, September 2, 2005.

Merle Barr, 81, of Ames, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Memorial services will be at a later date in Texas.

Merle was born March 3, 1924, in Webster City to Clifford and Susie (Singer) Barr. He served in the military during World War II. He married Marcella Ziemniak Feb 8., 1945. He was the plant manager for Franklin Manufacturing Company for 21 years and owned Oaks Golf Course from 1968-84. He was a member of the Elks and Moose Lodge and Asbury Methodist Church in Webster City. He enjoyed fishing and golfing.

He is survived by his wife, Marcella; one daughter, Diane (Steve) Carr of Clear Lake; and two grandchildren, Michelle and Robbie Mark.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Adams Funeral Home in Ames is in charge of arrangements.
