DEATH OF HENRY MANGUS.
Interesting News Notes From Gilbert and Vicinity.
Special to the Journal.
Gilbert, June 21.--Henry Mangus was born in Shade township, Somerset county, Pennsylvania, June 20, 1830. Married Mary Hummel Feb. 12, 1852, to this union were born fifteen children, nine of whom still live to mourn his death. April 1856 he left Pennsylvania and came to Illinois and located in Stephenson county. In the fall of 1871 he came to Iowa and located in Story county and has lived here since. When he believed the end was near he requested that all his children meet around his bed and expressed the desire that all should live the good live because he was going home and wanted all to meet him in heaven. His last words were: "God be with you 'till we meet again. Goodby, going home, going home." Mary Mangus, his wife died March 1, 1896. These words were written by Mr. Mangus: Resolved, I expect to pass through this world but once, any good thing therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show as a human being or any word that I can speak for Jesus, let me do it now, let me not neglect or defer it, for I shall not pass this way again. God bless these words and truths to me. In 1858 under the labors of Rev. Snow and C. O. Tobias, the Lord Jesus said "Come unto me and live" and I accepted the invitation and tried to be faithful ever since.
