Madonna was born July 28, 1928, in Mitchell, S.D., to Edwin and Ann (Clancy) Fishe. In 1948, she married John D. Highland, who served during World War II. She was a tender, loving wife and mother of seven. She was an active volunteer to St. Benedict's Circle, Catholic Charities, Sacks on Santa Fe and Sunshine Club at Holy Cross Church. Music and dancing brought her great joy. She taught herself to play the piano, and could play any song by ear. She could really "cut a rug" with the jitterbug or waltz. She loved to watch the Lawrence Welk Show every week. Her positive, upbeat spirit endeared her to a multitude of friends. Always a lady, she kept herself impeccably dressed and groomed. She was the life of the party.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, John; four sons, Jack and his wife, Brenda, of East Rygate, Vt., Steve and his wife, Deb, of Winter Haven, Fla., Greg and his wife, Samma, of Greenville Tenn., and Kevin and his wife, Kelly, of Owasso, Okla.; three daughters, Mary Highland of La Habra, Calif., Peggy Towner and her husband, Mark, of Overland Park. and Cathy Highland of Beverly Hills, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; one great grandchild; three brothers and two sisters.

Her parents and one brother, Ted, preceded her in death.
