Mrs. Ed White Dead; Funeral Rites on Monday
Mrs. Edmond White, 89, died at her home 537 Seventh street, Nevada, Friday night at 11:30, from complications due to her advanced years. While she had been failing in health for several years, she had been able to be up and about her home until a few days ago.
Funeral rites will be Monday morning at nine o'clock at St. Patrick's church , of which she was a long time and active member. The services will be in charge of her pastor Rev. Fr. Daniel A. Gorman and burial will be in St. Patrick's cemetery.
Mrs. White, whose maiden name was Ann Finn, was a native of Clonmel, Ireland. She came to the United States shortly after the close of the Civil War, locating in St. Louis, Mo., where she was married to Edmond White, who passed away at his home in Nevada, March 21, 1909.
Mr. and Mrs. White came to Story county, Iowa in 1872, locating upon a farm southeast of Colo where they lived until retiring in 1892, when they moved to Nevada.
During the forty-six years of her life in Nevada she had had but two homes, the first at 1603 Tenth street and later their home on Seventh street.
Miss Nellie White, a sister of Mr. White had lived in their home from childhood and had been raised as a daughter. Following the death of Mr. White, Miss White had remained in the home and had cared for the deceased during her declining years with the tenderness of a daughter.
Miss White was for many years a teacher in the Nevada schools, but had given up her work during the more recent years that she might devote her entire time to the home.
Mrs. White was a woman of exceptionally fine character and was loved and respected by all who enjoyed her acquaintance. While her entire life had been devoted to her home and her church, yet she always found time to extend needed aid and charity in the case of neighbors and friends.
The body will lie in state at the home all day Sunday and until the funeral hour Monday morning.
