Funeral Services for Late William George

Special to the Journal:
Collins, March 26--Funeral services for the late Thomas William George, who died at his home at Ottumwa, Thursday, March 17 morning was held from the Collins United Brethren church Sunday afternoon at two o'clock sigh the pastor, Rev. Harold Knight in charge. Three songs "The Old Rugged Cross," "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Sweet Bye and Bye" were sung by the quartet composed of Mrs. Harol Knight, Miss Myrl Huntrods, Kenneth Haas and Lowell Luing. The floral offerings were arranged by the Misses Donna and Margaret Huntrods.

Interment was on the family lot in the Evergreen cemetery at Collins. The pallbearers were Elmer Bence, Frank Elliott, A. C. Heintz, Noah Hyatt, Sam Jones and Dan Wilson. The following obituary was read at the services:

Thomas William George, son of Charles and Anna George, was born in Collins township, on Aug. 6, 1871, and passed from this life March 17, 1938, at Ottumwa at the age of 62 years, seven months and 11 days.

Mr. George grew in manhood in the neighborhood of the Willow Creek church of which he was a friend and faithful assistant. He was united in marriage to Miss Cora Teed of that vicinity on Mar. 13, 1900 and to this union, seven daughters and one son were born.

On January 21, 1917, Mrs. George passed away at her home in Collins. Following her death, Mr. George lived at Maxwell, Des Moines and Ottumwa. He was again united in marriage to Mrs. Dove Roop of Des Moines on Aug. 13, 1925.

He was preceded in death by his parent, an infant brother, a baby daughter, Martha and another daughter, Mrs. Velma McCoy.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, five daughters, Mrs. Alice Huntrods of Collins, Mrs. Florence Thompson of Des Moines, Mrs. Gertrude Maxwell and Mrs. Sarah Hartley of Maxwell, Mrs. Ellen Diller of Marshalltown, his son, Charles George of Los Angeles; a sister, Mrs. Pearl Viggers of Des Moines, 18 grandchildren, one step-daughter, Mrs. Wesley Marchand of Bloomfield and many other more distant relatives and friends.
