S. O. Lee, Pioneer was Buried Monday at Fjeldberg Church

Special to the Journal
Huxley, Jan. 20--Funeral services for the later S. O. Lee, who passed away at his home here on January 13, were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Fjeldberg church, after a short prayer service at the home at 1:30. The services were in charge of his pastor, assisted by Rev. Buland, who spoke in the Norwegian language.

After scripture reading by Dr. Anderson, there was a hymn "I know of a Sleep in Jesus Name." He then delivered the sermon and based his text on the 29th and 30th verses in the second chapter of St. Luke, "Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word. For mine eyes have seen thy salvation."

The choir sang "Asleep In Jesus" and Rev. Buland addressed the large audience and chose his text from the 5th chapter of Matthew, verses 3 and 6, "Blessed are the poor in spirit for their is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness for they shall be filled." Both pastors paid a glowing tribute to a pioneer who had passed on to the Great Beyond. He was a quiet and peace loving man and his many kind acts had placed him in the highest esteem. His greatest concern was the salvation of his soul and he saw his need of the Saviour.

Mrs. L. W. Kloster of Des Moines sang "Going Home" and Norwegian hymn "A Happy Day When We Shall Stand."

The floral offerings were very beautiful and there numerous gifts to the missions given in his memory.

The pallbearers were the one son Paul and five sons-in-law, Elmer Erickson, Palmer Anderson, Noble Twedt, K. L. Fatland and Ole Cleveland.

Sakarias O. Lee son of Ole and Anna Lee was born in Vats, Norway, July 5, 1860. He was the youngest in a family of eight children. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and came to America when he was twenty years old.

In July 1892 he returned to Norway for a visit and was married to Leva Seversike in December of the same year, returning to America in February. They established their home on a farm southeast of Huxley where they continued to live until they retired and moved to town two and one-half years ago. They were blessed with eight children, one son Paul, and seven daughters, Martha Lee of Chicago, Mrs. Anna Hemmingson, Mrs. Agnes Fatland, Mrs. Olga Erickson, Mrs. Alma Cleveland, Mrs. Carrie Anderson and Mrs. Jeanette Twedt all of this community.

He passed away at his home on Thursday, January 13, 1938 after a short illness having reached to age of 77 years, 6 months and 8 days.

He is survived by his wife and children, also 18 grandchildren and one brother Ole Lee, who lives in Cambridge.
