Funeral Services Held at Colo For Wilbur J. Peakin
Funeral services for Wilbur James Peakin, 28, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Peakin of near Colo, who died in a Marshalltown hospital December 12, was held Thursday with Requiem high mass at St. Mary's church and interment in St. James cemetery.
Mass was by his pastor Rev. Fr. Daniel A. Gorman with Mary Wilson at the piano and the songs by Russel Hopkins, Joe Mulcahy and John Orr.
The pall bearers were Clayton Hopkins, Clayton Robinson, James Fitzgerald, Robert Fitzgerald, Gerald Croker, Ronald Nefzgar and Reuben Hilleman.
Wilbur James Peakin, elder son of Patrick and Amelia Peakin, was born on a farm near Colo, Nov. 12, 1910 and died in St. Thomas hospital, Marshalltown, Dec 12, at the age of twenty-eight years, one month. Death was due to an acidosis condition following an operation for a ruptured appendix.
He was taken ill Dec. 6 and on Dec. 8 was taken to the hospital where an emergency operation was performed for what proved to be a ruptured appendix. His condition was recognized as critical from the outset and every effort was made to alleviate his condition. It was in vain, however, and he passed away Monday evening, Dec. 12, at 10:30 p. m.
News of Wilbur's death dame as a shock and the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community was manifested by the large number of floral offerings and other tributes to the bereaved family.
He was graduated from the Colo high school with the class of 1928, and since that time has been engaged in farming with his father and brother, having lived his entire life in the community.
Wilbur was a pleasant companion, a good neighbor and a friend to everyone. He leaves to mourn his untimely passing, his parents, one brother, Sylvester, and a host of relatives and friends.

O'Donnell, Williams; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Greiner, Miss Laura Dunn, Messrs. Chas. Helin and Harold Fitzgerald, St. Anthony; Messrs. Joe and John Fitzgerald, Colfax; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Leslie; Mr. Earl Webb, Misses Margaret Kielly, Susan McGrath, Helen McGrath, Marshalltown; and others from Zearing, Nevada, and State Center.
