Adolph Hemness Funeral Services Held In Story C.

Funeral services for Adolph Hemness was held at 1 p.m. Friday afternoon November 9 in the Grace E.U.B Church in Story City.

The Rev. H. W. Riegel officiated. Organist was Mrs. Dorrel Doolittle. The vocalists, Mrs. Homer Olson and Mrs. Luther Matson sang "Sweet Hour of Prayer" and "Abide With Me."

Pallbearers were Peter B. Larson, Lloyd Ritland, Samuel Twedt, Roy Gaard, Milo Helland and Jasper Erickson. Interment was made in the Story City Municipal cemetery.

Life Sketch

Adolp Hemness was born near Etne, Norway in Europe on September 12, 1877. At the age of 14 years he came to the United States. Here he learned the trade of harness making from Ben T. Holm and worked with him for many years. For 18 years he served as a salesman for the Standard Oil Company. In the early 30's he retired and moved back to Story City.

On January 6, 1905 he was married to Ellen Stevens. To this union were born three children: Ernest, Thelma and Harold. His daughter preceded him in death. Two sons, Ernest of El Cajon, Calif. and Harold of New York City survive; also a brother, Magnus Hemness of Story City.

Hemness died suddenly at 8:30 p.m., November 5 at his home.
