Tractor Accident Kills Father Of Four on Saturday
Richard Schoppe, 29, was killed instantly Saturday afternoon when his tractor turned over in a ditch on his farm seven miles southwest of State Center. He was pulling two loaded wagons behind the tractor when an embankment gave way and flipped the tractor.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the St. Paul Lutheran Church at State Center with the Rev. E. J. Braun officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside cemetery at State Center. The body will lie in state at the Wensel Perrin Funeral Home until 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Survivors include his wife, Amelia; four children all at home, Richard Dean, Randall Lee, Timothy Harold and Peggy Sue; a brother, Danny of Marshalltown; and one sister, Mrs. James Barrett of Colo and his mother, Mrs. John Watt of Colo. He was preceded in death by his father.
Schoppe was born September 4, 1933, the son of Harold and Opal Schoppe near State Center. he attended school in Rhodes and was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in State Center. On November 25, 1955 he was united in marriage to Amelia Myers of Colo, at Princeton, Mo. They made their home on a farm southwest of State Center.
