James W. Swalwell Funeral Services Held In Baxter
Funeral services for James W. Swalwell, 81, of Newton were held Saturday, Aug. 25 at the Congregational Christian Church in Baxter.
Swalwell was born near Collins Oct. 13, 1880, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Swalwell. He attended rural schools near Collins and lived in Emmett County with a sister until he was married.
He was united in marriage to Carrie Miller on March 27, 1912 in Des Moines. The couple lived west of Baxter until 1938 when they moved on a farm west of Newton. They moved into the their home in Newton a year and a half ago. Swalwell had been in failing health for the past three years. He died Wednesday, Aug. 22 at his home in Newton at 4:40 p. m. He was a member of Sugar Grove Grange.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Alva and Wayne, both of Newton and James of Chicago; three daughters: Mrs. Wilbur (Mildred) Snodgrass of Newton, Mrs. Roy (Grace ) Kleen of Doliver and Mrs. Roy (Bonnie) Eilert of Kellogg; nine grandchildren; and four great grandchildren; also four brothers, Charles of Maxwell, Thomas of Matoon, Ill., George of Newton and Christopher of Farmington; five sisters, Belva, Iva and Ada, all of Collins, Mrs. Hilmer (Eve) Bark of Des Moines and Mrs. Ruth Patterson of Storm Lake.
