Former Resident Of Maxwell Dies At Home of Son
Mrs. B. M. Kirkman, 78, formerly of Maxwell, died in Marshalltown Saturday afternoon at the home of her son, Willis Kirkman, where she had made her home the past three years. She had been in rapidly failing health the last two weeks.
Mrs. Kirkman was born May 11, 1884 in Peoria City near Maxwell to Luther and Ann Tomlinson* Hutson. On December 12, 1903, she was united in marriage to Bert Kirkman and they lived a short time in Straubville, N. D. before moving back to Maxwell. They lived there until moved to Marshalltown three years ago. She was a member of the Maxwell Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Kirkman was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert in 1918; a daughter, Mrs. Wilma Irons in 1960, and three sisters.
Survivors include her husband, Bert; one son, Willis of Marshalltown and a sister, Mrs. Birdella Meyers of Maxwell.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p. m. in the Peoria Methodist Church, 3 1/2 miles southeast of Maxwell, with the Rev. Howard Marty of Marshalltown officiating. Burial will be in the Peoria cemetery. Friends may call at the Estel-Perrin Funeral Home in Marshalltown until 9 a. m. Tuesday.
SUBMITTER'S NOTE: The article actually states Alta Mae (Hutson) Kirkman was the daughter of Luther and Ann Tomlinson but Tomlinson was her mother's maiden name. Her parents were Martin Luther "Luther" Hutson and Hannah Elizabeth "Ann" (Tomlinson) Hutson.
