Funeral Services Are Held Monday For J. E. Shalley

Jesse Edward Shalley, son of John S. and Susanne Booher Shalley, was born at Fairview, Pennsylvania, November 14, 1869. He died at his home in Nevada, Iowa, January 11, 1962 at the age of 92 years, one month and 27 days.

Early in his youth he came to Story County, Iowa where he spent the remainder of his life. Here he met and married Cora Ellen Huhn March 18, 1896.

To this union was born four sons and two daughters. They are: Earl Shalley of Des Moines, Chester Shalley of Nevada, Viola Rosenberg of Bondurant, Ivan Shalley of Nevada. Lester and Lillie died in infancy.

He was also preceded in death by his lifelong companion, who died March 3, 1961.

In addition to his four living children, Shalley is survived by thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was a member of the priesthood. He was a man of sterling character, upstanding and industrious.

Funeral Services

Funeral services for Jesse Edward Shalley were held at the Ryan Funeral Home Monday, Jan. 15, 1962 at 1:30 p. m. with the Elder W. E. Williams officiating.

Mrs. Gilbert Howard, soloist sang, "Jesus Savior Pilot Me," accompanied by Miss Donna Olson.

The casket bearers were M. E. Hall, Russell Melohn, David Paine, Ivan A. Shalley, Jo Wendell Shalley and William H. Shalley. Burial was in the Nevada cemetery.
