Rites for Samuel Patterson Held at Collins Tuesday
Funeral services were held for Samuel Patterson Tuesday afternoon in the Collins Methodist church with Rev. Thomas Woodin officiating.
Mrs. John Cleverley was the soloist and sang "What a Friend we have in Jesus" and "Abide with me" accompanied by Mrs. C. R. Stone on the piano. Flowers were cared for by Mrs. Maude Morrison and Mrs. Arthur Tiffany.
Casket bearers were Walter Barker, Joe Tiffany, P. J. Wetrich, Thayer Derby, Fred Kimberley and Byron Keagle. Interment was in the Evergreen cemetery in charge of the Brouhard Funeral service of Zearing.
OBITUARY
Samuel R. Patterson, son of Joseph and Jane Patterson was born near Ramsey, Indiana on January 26, 1873 and died in the Skiff hospital in Newton June 19, 1960 at the age of 87 years, 4 months and 23 days.
His early life was spent in Indiana and Illinois and 59 years ago he came to Iowa where he farmed in the Collins area until a few years ago when he came to Collins.
On February 13, 1896 he was united in marriage with Olive Patton who has preceded him in death. Mr. Patterson was the last of a family of ten, five sister and four brother have also preceded him in death and one son Chester.
Surviving are three sons Lloyd of Cleveland, Ohio, Earl of Des Moines and Harold of Ames, and two daughters (Dorothy) Mrs. Oliver Fuller of Mingo and (Lillian) Mrs. Steve Freeland of State Center, twelve grand children and 16 great-grandchildren.
