Rites for Della Thornton Held at Colo Church
Funeral services were held for Della M. Thornton Wednesday afternoon in the Methodist Church, of which she was a member in Colo. Rev. Basil Grimes of Des Moines delivered the address assisted by the Rev. Paul Hasel of Colo. Mrs. Donald Carlson sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Sunrise Tomorrow" accompanied by Mrs. N. H. Brinkman.
Flowers were cared for by Mrs. John Lounsberry, Mrs. Harold Kimberley and Mrs. Harold Lyon. Casket bearers were Raymond Long and William Fitzgerald. Interment was in the Colo cemetery and was in charge of the Brouhard Funeral service of Zearing.
Obituary
Della M. Thornton was the daughter of James K. and Loretta Dickinson and was born September 27, 1891 and died in hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico while enroute home from a winter in California, on April 2, 1960 aged 68 years, six moths and five days.
She was the wife of Ralph M. Thornton and the mother of five children all of whom survive her and they are namely Mrs. Betty Patterson of Long Beach, Calif.; Verle of Anaheim, Calif.; Mrs. Velda Larson of Story City; Mrs. Veda Schuster of St. Ansgar and Richard of Omaha, Nebraska. Also a twin brother Delbert Dickinson of Colo; thirteen grandchildren and great grand daughter.
She lived most of her life around Colo and the last few years in Collins. She joined the Dalton church and later the Colo Methodist church, and was a member of the Royal Neighbors Lodge, the MFO Club of Colo and the Eldeen Club of Collins and was active in all of them. She will be greatly missed by her many friends, relatives and neighbors.
