Elmer O. Highland Dies Yesterday PM At Home in Ames
Elmer O. Highland, 73, of 131 Campus Avenue, Ames, died yesterday at 1:45 p. m. at his home. Death was attributed to a heart condition. He had been in ill health for the past four years.
Born May 11, 1886, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. K. O. Highland, pioneers in the Roland community.
Mr. Highland had been an auctioneer and was in the upholstery business in Ames until his retirement six years ago. He was a member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church and an usher there for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Clara; one son, Robert of Boone and two daughters, Mrs. Fern Peterson of Nevada and Mrs. Wilma Haukom of Fort Atkinson, Wis.
One sister, Mrs. Myrtle Knutson of Minneapolis, ten grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Services will be held Sunday Feb. 28 at 2 p. m. in the Bethesda Lutheran Church with Rev. O. N. Severseiki officiating. Preceding the church service there will be a prayer service held at the Adams Funeral Home at 1:30 p. m. with Rev. Robert Larsen officiating. Burial will be in the Roland cemetery.
