JOHN MATHISON DIED SUDDENLY THIS MORNING
WELL KNONW CITIZEN PASSED AWAY FROM HEART FAILURE--FUNERAL WEDNESDAY.
John Mathison, 66, long time and well known citizen of Nevada, died very suddenly at the family home in the north part of the city this morning about 5 o'clock.
Mr. Mathison had been in his usual health, had attended a family dinner party Sunday, slept as usual but shortly before his death awoke and complained of slight indisposition. Mrs. Mathison secured the usual remedy but within a few minutes he had silently passed on. Heart trouble was the cause of death.
Funeral services will be held from the Memorial Lutheran church Wednesday afternoon at 2:30, after which interment will be in the Nevada cemetery.
Mr. Mathison, a native of Denmark, had been a resident of Nevada since a young man.
For many years he worked as a ditching contractor and similar work but of later years has devoted part of his time as custodian of a couple of the school buildings of the city and to concrete construction work.
He served several terms on the city council and had taken an active interest in affairs of the city.
Besides his wife he leaves ten children, they being Martinus P. Mathison of Eagle Grove, a daughter, Millie Kramer of Independence, Peter Mathison of Nevada, Amiel Mathison of Story City, Earl Mathison of Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Florence Dickey of Los Angeles an Elva, Helen, Clarence and Arthur all at home.
He also leaves one brother, Bartel Mathison, who lived nearby and various other relatives.
The announcement of the death of Mr. Mathison came as a distinct shock to the family, friends and neighbors, who had seen and visited him but a few hours before his passing.
