Helen Shorett Dead At Hopkins Home

Helen Shorett, 15, died at an early hour this morning at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Hopkins on Tenth street, of infantile paralysis or a kindred disease. The girl had been ill for but a week, but it was not until Tuesday afternoon that the true nature of the trouble was apparent. Since that time the home had been under strict quarantine and she had been under the constant care of two nurses and all that medical skill could do for her was at hand.

Owing to the nature of the disease no funeral services will be held and today an investigation is being made as to the possibility of the shipping of the body to the family hoe at Seattle, for interment by the side of her mother, Mrs. Sadie Hopkins-Shorett.

Helen, with her little brother Paul, accompanied their aunt, Ella Hopkins, when she came east from Seattle in June, and had been at the home of their grandparents since. It was not until the day before the recent Golden Wedding anniversary of her grandparents, and when the family were gathering for the affair, that she was taken ill.

Helen is the third of the five children and only daughter of J. W. Shorett of Seattle. The first wife of Mr. Shorett and mother of Helen, was Miss Sadie Hopkins of this city. Following her death Mr. Shorett took another of the Hopkins sisters, Miss Lydia, for a bride who also passed on about a year or more ago. Helen leaves three full brothers, two older than herself, and the little half brother, Paul. The case is indeed a sad one and the most heartfelt sympathy of the entire community is extended to the stricken father and other relatives, in their hours of very sad affliction.

Mr. and Mrs. McDonald of Seattle are also here and will probably accompany Mr. Shorett and the boy of Helen west, should the shipping of the body be allowed.
