FUNERAL OF MISS LARSON

Passing of Well Known Woman Deeply Mourned

The high esteem in which Miss Hannah Larson, 52, longtime head nurse at Iowa sanitarium, who passed away at her room in that institution Saturday evening, was attested Monday afternoon by the large number of people who attended the funeral services at the Seventhday Adventist church, in spite of the fact that there had been but little opportunity for outside friends to learn of her passing.

The sermon was preached by Elder T. H. Jeys of that church after which the body was prepared for shipment to Exira for interment.* The pallbearers were six young ladies who had worked as nurses at Iowa sanitarium under the supervision of Miss Larson.

Hannah A. Larsen was born in Jutland, Denmark, December 19, 1873*, and died at Nevada, September 12, 1925, aged 52 year, 8 months, and 23 days. She was the eldest of a family of nine children of Lars C. and Christina Larsen. She came with her parents to America in 1877 and they made their home near Harlan in Shelby county, Iowa. At the age of 18 she left her home to attend school at Union college. After finishing her school work she engaged in the Bible work for about two years. Then, seeing the greater usefulness of those who can minister to the physical needs, she entered the College View Sanitarium, and took training as a nurse. On the completion of her course she was employed by that institution as head nurse, which position she held for 15 years. Leaving College View she came to Nevada, and connected with the Iowa Sanitarium, at which place she remained until the time of her death, a period of nearly 12 years.

"Service" was the key not of [her] life. Many people in many [----] will remember her kindly unost[enta]tious ministrations. She wanted [to] live, but was resigned to die. [She] literally gave her life and all the p[ow]ers and means to the service of [hu]manity in the medical line.

She died of pernicious anemia. [She] leaves to mourn her step-mother, [Mrs.] Knudsen of Exira, five brothers, [---] sisters and a very great host of [---]ren and friends. Hers was a life [well] spent. She went down into the [---] with no fear. Her loved ones [mourn] but not as those who have no [faith.]

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: The above obituary gives Hannah A. Larsen's date of birth as 19 December 1873 in Jutland, Denmark aged 52 years, 8 months and 23 days. Her death record gives her date of birth as 19 January 1872 in Saby, Denmark and her age as 53 years, 7 months and 23 days. The interment was actually in Jacksonville, Shelby County, Iowa (17 miles from Exira in Audubon County, Iowa.)
