Last Rites For Oscar J. Finley
Funeral services for the late Oscar Finley, 91, of Salem, S. D. former resident of Story County, whose death occurred in a convalescent home in Parker, S. D. were held from the First Presbyterian church with the Rev. R. I. Larsen of Bridgewater, S. D. officiating.
Burial was in the Wildwood cemetery at Salem with the Kinsley Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Casket bearers were Leslie Marks, Henry Hanson, George Koethe, Frank Feterl, John Feterl and Louis Feterl.
Mr. Finely has pent the past six months in the Sioux Falls hosptal but died at Parker on June 5.
Oscar J. Finley was the last of a family of 12 children. He ws born, May 25, 1864 at Rock Island, Illinois. He immigrated with his parents in a covered wagon to Nevada, Iowa, in October, 1865, and Story County continued to be his home until March 1, 1906, when he moved to Salem, S. D.
He was married to Isabella A. Thomas on January 12, 1893, at Nevada, Iowa. To this union was born three daughters: Bessie (Mrs. August Timmerman), Myrtle Finley and Ruth (Mrs. Chas. Miller).
His wife preceded him in death August, 1926 and his daughter Myrtle, in September, 1942.
Besides the two daughters, he leaves two grandchildren: Donald Timmerman and Collene Miller, two nephews, Claude Moran and Ed McConnell, and one niece Mrs. Mary Finley Reitz, the latter three of Nevada, as well as a number of other relatives.
Mr. Finley was a brother of the late Wm. Finley, Mrs. Mark Moran and Mrs. Sam McConnell, all former Story county residents.
Relatives from here in attendance at the last rites were Mrs. Mary Reitz, Lee Shickell and son Bill, Claude Shickell of Nevada and Lowell Selover, of Des Moines.
