PASSING OF FINE CHARACTER

Funeral of Mrs. Emma Vincent Held Thursday.

Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Vincent, 67, whose death occurred at her apartments in the Morfoot building Tuesday evening, following a brief illness of pleurisy and pneumonia were held Thursday afternoon at the Christian church, after which the boy was taken to the Johnson Grove cemetery for interment, in the family lot beside other members of her family.

The services were conducted by her pastor, Rev A. V. Hart, assisted by Dr. C. N. Swihart and at the close the Rebekah lodge had their ritualistic service, she being an active member of that order. The services were largely attended and many accompanied the body to the final resting place, up in the neighborhood where she spent her girlhood days.

She was born Emma Elliott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Elliott, in December 6, 1957. When she was nine years of age she moved with her parents and other members of the family to Johnson's Grove and settled on the old Elliott homestead that remained her home until she was united in marriage to R. B. Vincent, in the month of December, 1875. They made their home in Story county for number of years, then moved to Hosington, Kan.

Mr. Vincent passed away in the year 1904, and after his death Mrs. Vincent returned to Nevada and made her home with her parents. Her devoted care of her mother, who passed away two years ago, was only an example of her faithfulness to duty and her willing service to others. Her decision to lead a Christian life was made at an early age and from then on until her death she remained true and sincere in her faith. She was a valued member for the Church of Christ of this city for 16 years, and was active in Sunday school work, being superintendent of the Cradle Ross for a number of years.

She was an active member of the Rebekah lodge and was treasurer of this order. She was a member of the degree staff and her willing and able services will be greatly missed by all of the members who have grown to love and respect her with love sincere.

Her passing has come as a shock to the community, in the work of which she was active, being matron of the public rest room at the court house and here is another vacancy which will be difficult to fill.

Mrs. Vincent's health had been failing the last two weeks, but it was not until Saturday that she was confined to her bed.

Deceased leaves to mourn her death one sister and two brothers: Mrs. Carrie Hankins of Des Moines, J. B. Elliott of Gilmore City and G. B. Elliot of Montrose, Calif., one nephew and four nieces, besides a host of neighbors and friends.
